STATEMENT

Sculpture enables diverse perspectives and expedites experimentation. It borrows sensory factors from various media,

thus giving rise to an abundance of transformations. Through time, pregnant with symbolic meaning,

it ultimately evokes different sensations in every one of us.

Artground HEPTA's opening exhibition <Iconic Sculpture 7>, brings together the works of seven sculptors who embody the momentum of

contemporary sculpture. The sculptors are Lee Jae-hyo, Park Seung-mo, Noh Jun, Song Woon-chang, Song Feel,

Kwon Dae-hun and Kim Byung-jin. All of them further their reputation on the global art scene by actively brandishing their individuality.

We owe this unexpected and unprecedented gathering of talents in one place to the ambitious and diligent planning of the HEPTA.

It is the aim of this exhibition to symbolically represent manifold visually formalising verbal expressions through multi-dimensional materials.

The various characteristics and trends of modern sculpture, as well as such elements as materials, images, messages, techniques, media,

philosophy, and psychology, exist in a holistic relationship. So as to discover the original order of nature and realising the meaning

of existence through the exquisite interconnectedness hiding within phenomena, leads to the experience of the mystical.

As an anthropomorphic animal caricature makes us empathise with the childlike, so can we eulogise the vitality of a metallic sculpture of a tree.

Man relieves the burden of suffering and seeks hope. Utilising smoke and mirror stage props as raw material,

one formalises the psyche and seises the moment. Besides a union of symbol images aesthetically sublimates illusionary human desires.

This exhibition celebrates to co-exist a union of creative expansiveness in the spirit experimental challenge,

of the appropriateness of mutability in the artistic endeavour and of free appreciation on behalf of the spectating public.

It is an opportunity for the HEPTA and the 7 contributing artists to have an exchange of aesthetic values as represented by

our times and find confidence through pride in achievements.

조각은 관점을 다양화하면서 새로운 실험이 가속화 된다. 여러 가지 매체의 감각적 요인을 예술에 차용하면서 변화가 더욱 풍요롭다.

시대를 관통하는 함축적 상징적 의미의 조각은 대중의 각기 다른 감성을 자극하기에 이른다.

아트그라운드 헵타의 개관전 <Iconic Sculpture 7>은 동시대 조각의 모멘텀을 대표하는 7인의 조각가와 함께 한다.

각자의 개성과 명성으로 세계를 무대로 활발히 활동하고 있는 이재효, 박승모, 노 준, 송운창, 송 필, 권대훈, 김병진 조각가 7명이 주인공이다.

이들이 한 자리에 모인다는 것은 누구도 예측하기 어려운 어울림이다. 이는 헵타의 과감한 기획이 빛을 발한 결과다.    

특히 이번 전시가 상징하는 것은 다차원의 재료로 빚어낸 다양한 시각적 조형 언어이다.

재료, 이미지, 메시지, 기법, 매체, 철학, 심리 등 현대조각의 여러 특징적 경향이 총체적으로 관계한다.

자연의 원천적 질서를 찾아 존재의 의미를 깨닫고, 인간이 짊어진 고뇌의 짐을 덜어 희망을 찾아가고,

금속 조각 하나하나를 용접해 만든 나무의 생명력에 찬사를 보내고, 사물의 내면에 숨어있는 아름다운 연기(緣起)로 신비로운 경험에 이르게 한다.

연속적인 기호 이미지의 결합으로 인간 욕망의 환상을 미적으로 승화하고, 사람 형상을 닮은 동물을 캐릭터화하며 동심을 감정이입하고,

무대장치 속 빛과 그림자를 재료로 인간의 심리를 형상화 하고 찰나의 깨달음을 이끌어 낸다.

이번 전시는 작가의 새로운 실험적 도전 정신이 기반한 창조적 확장성, 변화무쌍한 예술행위의 타당성, 대중을 위한 감상의 자율성이 공존한다.

헵타와 조각가 7인이 담아내고 있는 이 시대를 상징하는 예술적 가치와 자부심을 교류하는 기회가 될 것이다.
